Who Else Wants A 20Ft Caravan With Ensuite?

Is there more thrilling and personal way to travel the countryside than going in style with a caravan or motor-home? You get the excitement of the open road while enjoying all the comforts of home. Some people enjoy a nice hotel room but you have to admit they lack a personal touch and you can’t take it with your at your next holiday lodges destination. The only complaint I’ve heard from people about caravans is the stereotypical 70’s d├ęcor image we all have. Thankfully, it is something which can be fixed.

Luxury Caravans

Redesigning the interior of your caravan couldn’t be easier. The small amount of space means a minimal, clutter free style is probably the way to go. I prefer simple darks yet stylishly colors, especially in a carpet. Go for contemporary looks and colors that don’t need constant cleaning. Some people found vinyl flooring works great at some of the muddier holiday parks since it can be wiped clean in seconds.

When it comes to the kind of furniture, I would spend some extra money on items with multiple uses. This saves money in the long run and also gives you more room within the caravan. Recently, I just purchased a couch-bed which also contains storage space in the body so I can keep the bedding in during the daytime. It saves a great deal of room.

A static caravan is a great investment in your families future holidays. You can enjoy amazing times in your new holiday home but you should look at after your static caravan to ensure it stays in tip top condition year on year.

I thought I would give you some hints and tips on maintaining your caravan and I will write some more detailed advice in other articles, but this one covers the main areas.

1) Gas and Electric Maintenance

Your holiday home will most likely be fitted with a gas boiler which in some cases will be connected to a central heating system.

Annual maintenance of your boiler should be completed by a competent and registered engineer, however you can ensure that it's running smoothly and highlight any concerns to your engineer as soon as possible. This will keep your overall costs down in future years.

As for electric systems I would recommend getting these annually checked for safety. Again, you can check if the fuses are in place correctly and that when you leave your static caravan that both the electric and bass is turned off at the main connection points to your plot.

2) Exterior Maintenance

This will reduce any issues of water leakage and also reduce down any damp that could be created when not in use.

9) Internal Cleaning

I would recommend that you clean your caravan on a regular basis. As you perform the cleaning you will be able to notice any signs of wear and tear that could effect the life of your static caravan.

If you are unable to perform a deep clean your park manager will be able to advise of local cleaning companies that specialise in static caravan cleaning. They will report any problems they notice to you so you can react quickly and repair any problems before they get worse.

10) Static Caravan Insurance

Please, please, please ensure you have adequate static caravan insurance.

This is one area where many owners fail to get the correct level of cover. If its too cheap, then it probably won't meet your requirements. Check your policy wording carefully and ensure that you are correctly covered for accidents or other insurance related claims.

Being a webmaster of a very popular camping and caravanning website I will get asked many questions on a daily basis and there does always tend to be a recurring theme amongst most of them, namely what is the difference between X type of caravan and Y type of caravan. Well here I hope to explain all of this in some detail so that it will hopefully clear up some of the confusion.

There are only really a few different types of caravans that are worthy of mention, mainly because the other type only generally make up no more than 0.1% of caravans, these being static caravans, touring caravans, motorhomes and park homes.

Static Caravans are generally between 20x8feet (length x width) and 38x14feet and on the whole are placed on a plot of a caravan park for the majority of their lives. Static caravans are not towable on public roads unless a support vehicle is behind the caravan and the roads are rated at over the weight of the caravan, as such they are generally transported on the back of lorries to and from locations. Static caravans are likely to have a lot of modern conveniences that you would expect from a modern home including double glazing, central heating and winter insulation.

Park Homes and Lodges are more similar to a static caravan than any other type mentioned before as they are comparable in size and the features that are available to them as standard though they will be moved around a lot less than a static caravan and generally will be of a higher spec, and also price. Things such as double glazing, air conditioning, central heating and other luxury features will be a lot more common as a standard feature in park homes and lodges. Park homes also have an advantage over static caravans in that they can increase their value over time making them more akin to a house than a caravan, despite the construction of them being more caravan like.
